In China alone, 160 million mobile phones are produced each week. As we keep turning to newer models, old phones often end up staying around the houses.
Most of us may never have heard of indium(铟)or tantalum(钽).They are two kinds of metals which play an important part in making phones and other machines. However, according to the scientists, these materials may run out near the end of the century.
A recent survey found that in the UK,51 % of the families have at least one unused electronic device(电子设备)while 45% have between two and five, including smart phones and computers. And 82% of these people have no plans to recycle their unused devices.
The problem has led scientists to worry that, within100 years, people may not have enough rare(稀有的) materials for electronic devices. Once they are gone, they are gone.
So, recycling your old smart phone is not such a bad idea. Besides saving space, it's environmentally friendly as many materials will be recycled. With 5G going on, new phones will be produced for the technology. So it may be worth thinking about how we should be caring for and dealing with our old ones.
