Everything about me elephant is big, from its size to how long it takes for a baby elephant to be born. Of all land animals, the elephants have the  (large) brain and can talk to each other using their own language. They also have  very good memory. They can remember lots of other elephants that they have known and have friends and family the same way humans do. They will get very sad  one dies and they help family members when they are sick or hurt.

    In India and Africa they  (use) for transportation and to carry tourists around animal parks. Elephants are different  many other animals because they are very kind and care about humans. They are gentle and kind and don't hurt anyone. They will only fight to protect  (they). There is a story of an  (India) king who died and for over 30 years his favourite elephant was very sad and would not do anything.

    And how do we humans treat elephants? For  (thousand) of years elephants have been treated very  (bad) and killed by humans. Although there is an international agreement to stop the ivory (象牙) from being sold, people still shoot and kill elephants to get their tusks. In fact, in 20 years there might not be any elephant left on Earth. So it is important for us  (save) the elephants before it's too late.

    Today, I would like to tell a story about the wild horse Calypso and me. He saved me from a terrible accident. I got Calypso along with two other wild horses when I was 26. When I got the wild horses home, I began learning how to introduce them to the human world. I had four domestic (驯养的) horses. I thought they could show the new horses how to act. And I was learning how to be with these new horses.

    One afternoon, I was riding a domestic horse around the outside of a riding arena(策骑场), with Calypso watching from inside. As my horse neared somewhere close to several trees, he got scared by something and ran around crazily. He was big and strong and it was difficult for me to control him. There was nothing I could do but stay on his back and pray everything would be OK.

    It was a difficult situation that I couldn't seem to get out of. Calypso was watching carefully. Suddenly he hurried into the place my horse refused to go. As Calypso came to a sudden stop with a screech (尖叫), two big wolves ran away with their eyes looking at me.

    I'm 65 now and I hardly ever ride, but Calypso, my lifesaver, is with me all the time.
