One of the most well-known Chinese skills is kung fu. Chinese kung fu is a series (系列) of fighting skills with a long history in China. And it  (think) as a traditional sport and part of Chinese culture. It  (include) Shaolin, Tai Chi, Yongchun and so on. It has lots of followers all over the world. Some Westerners think that all Chinese people are good at kung fu. That's not true,  this traditional skill has much influence in the locals' life style.

      kung fu is a fighting skill, it advocates (提倡) virtue and peace. This has been its common value  generation (—代人) to generation. With a number of movements and fighting actions, kung fu keeps  (it) first function (作用) of self-protection. Now more and more people of different ages practise it  (keep) healthy. Many kung fu training centres or clubs appear. Kung fu movies also attract great attention outside China. Even foreigners make  (they) own movies about kung fu. Kung fu movie stars, including Bruce Lee, Jet Li and Jackie Chan, are famous for the fantastic kung fu  (skill). They help kung fu become  (popular) than ever around the world.

    My sister and I went to an art museum last weekend. The museum was having a two-week show. Lots of very old artworks from two cities in Italy were on show.

    I liked one of the paintings best. The light on the woman's dress made it look as if she was really sitting there. A note on the wall told me about the artist and the painting. I was also interested in a very old sculpture(雕像). Parts of it had broken off. But I could still see how the man looked.

    There were quite a lot of paintings in the museum. Some paintings were stored away (保存). We saw them on the computer. The computer had a note about each painting and artist.

    After enjoying the artworks, we went to a room with costumes (戏装) in the museum. There my sister dressed up like one of the people in the old paintings. That was her favourite part of visiting the museum.

    In the museum, we also made art ourselves. I drew some flowers. And my sister drew a cute cat.

    At last we went to a gift shop in the museum. My sister chose a book for kids, and I chose a little sculpture.

    My sister and I were tired, but we had fun. I hope there can be more shows as exciting as this one in the museum.

    Hi, I'm Bella. I can't remember a time when my bedroom didn't have a bookshelf. From Dr. Seuss to Mother Goose, I had all kinds of books that progressed in size as I got older.

    My earliest memory of books was sitting on my bed at night with my mum reading to my older brother and me. And my first beloved book was a children's book about being a chosen child. It helped me, an adopted (被收养的) child, learn that my family was my very own because they chose me. As I got older, the books got thicker and more difficult. The first book I ever bought with my own money was L. M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables.

    When in primary school, there Was a book catalog (目录). We could take it home and ask our parents to help us order new books. Then the books would be sent to the school. There was nothing better than getting my little bag of books.

    My love for science fiction was deepened by my older brother's love for it. He introduced me to Star Trek and Doctor Who, but it was his copy of The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks that got me really interested in science fiction.

    I read classics (名著) in high school. The first time I had the thought that I wanted to be a writer was after reading one of Edgar Allan Poe's works. And his use of words surprised me. Yeah, it's no wonder I studied English in university and later I became an English teacher. Through my work, I can pass on my love for the written word and books to my students. How great!

    Many old games have disappeared since modem games came out. Teachers at a primary school asked their students to write articles about games they knew and were shocked by the results (结果). Half of the 50 children in one of the classes wrote about online games.

    It is easy to see that traditional games like hide and seek and jump rope games are unfamiliar to many of today's school children. An educationist said, "Traditional games used to be so popular. But over just a few years, kids have forgotten them. It's sad."

    The games that many parents once played during breaks or after school were mainly outdoor activities. They usually needed several partners and just a little space. Jump rope games, for example, have always been popular in countries around the world. Rubber band jumping was once very popular in primary schools. Girls loved playing this game. This game can help kids practise their jumping skills, develop coordination (协调能力), and also meet lots of friends.

    "When we were young, we played many different outdoor games, but today's children don't know what to play or how to play them," a 40-year-old mother said. "If these kids want something, they can get it, but they don't know what teamwork is."

    Warned by the situation, educational officers have tried to make some programmes to educate children on traditional games.

    On 15 January, 2018, International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach awarded the Pierre de Coubertin medal (顾拜旦奖章) to Lv Junjie, a Chinese master of Zisha, in Lausanne. Lv became the first Zisha artist to take the award. The medal was introduced in 1964 and named in honour of Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the IOC.

    Zisha is a type of clay. It has been used in Chinese pottery (陶器) since the Ming dynasty. The finished stoneware (粗陶器) is used for teaware (茶具) and other small items, and is not usually having a shiny coat. It is red or brown in colour. Lv got the prize from the IOC because of his work using Zisha to spread me Olympic spirit.

    "It's my first time stepping into the IOC headquarters," Lv said. "It has nothing to do with me. It is this traditional art of Zisha that receives such recognition from the IOC. It is because of the uniqueness (独特性) and lasting spirit of Chinese culture," he added.

    In 1966, Lv Junjie was born in Yixing, Jiangsu Province, China. His father Lv Yaochen is a famous artist in Chinese Zisha industry. Lv Junjie was influenced by his father from an early age. However, his family didn't support him to work for it at first. His mother worked as a worker in the Zisha factory all her life and knew it was hard work. At the age of 16, Lv Junjie decided to be an artist like his father. He told his father that he loved Zisha. Later he studied at a university in Singapore. After he finished school he made Zisha his career.
