Do you know what ballet, jeans, and
eyeglasses have in common? They were all invented in Italy. Now, another
Italian symbol is becoming famous as a possible solution to an environmental problem.
In a time when the world looked for ways to make less plastic waste, pasta
straws (意大利面吸管) might be one of the
answers.
Some
bars in Italy began to use pasta straws. However, it's clear that they need to
work on replacing (代替) the plastic cups as
well if they really want to have an eco-friendly way of life.
Interestingly, there already is a company
that sells pasta straws. Their straws are in the same shape and size as usual
plastic straws. They are tasteless and don't change the taste of the drink. The
pasta straws last for up to an hour in cold drinks, and the colder the drink
is, the longer one can use them.
People had better not drink hot drinks through
a pasta straw because it may let them be in the danger of burning themselves.
But it's totally fine to use it to stir a coffee for a few seconds. If you have
a drink for hours and the pasta straw finally becomes soft, you can even choose
to eat it.
Other
kinds of straws, like stainless steel, are more expensive. Guests don't think
stainless steel straws are completely clean. So pasta straws are better.
