Mr Brown got up late this morning. He was going to be late for work.

It was raining hard and the streets were wet. He drove so fast that he didn't see the red light. He couldn't stop his car and hit a car.

    An old man got out of the car and called out angrily, "What are you doing? How can you drive so fast?"

    "I'm sorry, sir, "said Mr Brown. "I didn't see the light turn red." "I will make you drunk(醉的)," he said to himself. Then he brought out a bottle of wine and gave it to the old man. "It's cold today, sir," said Mr Brown." Please drink a little, and then you'll get warm."

    The old man drank some wine and became happy. He asked, "I'm feeling much better now. Why don't you drink any?"

     "I can't drink anything now, sir, "answered Mr Brown." I'm waiting for the policeman. Only drunkards cause accidents, you know! "

    David and Tim are brothers and they are in the same school.

    One afternoon, 1they finished their lessons, they stayed in the school to help their teacher work. They2for an hour. Then the teacher said, "Thank you, boys. We will finish the work tomorrow. It's getting dark. Now you3go home." When the boys got home, it was seven o'clock. The lights were on in their house and the door was4.They saw a man in the house.

     "Who can it be?" David thought." Dad and Mum are5now. They won't be back until(直到) eight o'clock."

    David went into the house and talked with the man. Tim quickly went to8the police. Soon Tim and a policeman came back. When the man saw the policeman, he tried to run out of the door, but the policeman9 him.

    Just then Mr and Mrs Baker, the boys'10came back home from work. The policeman asked Mr Baker, "Do you know the man?"

    "No," said Mr Baker, "I don't know him. He must be a thief."

    The moon was behind a cloud and there weren't many stars in the sky.

    It was a dark night. I saw a glow(光) in my neighbour's kitchen. I thought he was having a night meal so I went back to my bed.

    Soon, there was a smell of burning in the air and I thought there was probably something wrong. I jumped out of the bed quickly and went out to make sure. I saw a fire coming out of my neighbour's kitchen. Then I shouted "Fire! Fire! ".But no one in the neighbourhood heard my shouts for help.

    I ran into my house, called the fire department(消防队) and went back to my neighbour's house. I banged(猛敲) on the door and called out my neighbour's name, but there was no answer. Finally I broke into the house and rescued a cat and a dog.

    I tried to pour water through the kitchen window but it was no use. It was a big fire. Luckily, the firemen arrived soon and stopped the fire.

    When my neighbour came back, he was sad for his kitchen but he thanked me for calling the fire department and for saving his pets. He wanted to give me some money but I did not accept it.

    Weeks later, my neighbour had a new kitchen. He invited me to see his new kitchen and we enjoyed a big meal there. It made me very happy.

R: Timmy, what were you doing when the earthquake happened?

T: I was doing some shopping in a shopping centre at that time.

T: I felt a slight(轻微的) shake and then I heard a big noise.

R: What did you do when the earth started to shake?

T: I saw many people running quickly while pieces of glass and bricks(砖) were falling down.

R:

T: Yes, I think so.

R: How did you feel when you found yourself in danger?

T: A little afraid.

R:

T: Yes, I did, but no one came.

R: Did you eat anything before you got help?

T: Yes, I did.

R: Well, thank you, Timmy. I hope you'll be well soon.
