Kelly's favourite subject is PE. But she had a hard time in PE class. She was not good at jumping very far, she had trouble throwing a ball, and she couldn't run really fast. Sometimes, some kids made fun of(取笑) her. So why does Kelly love PE class?

    The reason is that her teacher Mr. Burns always tells her to do her best. Though she only ran for a few minutes, Mr Burns said, “Good job! Next time you will be able to go a little longer.”Mr Burns even put a small box on the floor, so Kelly would be able to practise jumping over it.

    That night when Kelly finished dinner, she put three boxes and began practising jumping over them. She made it! Kelly thought to herself, “Tomorrow I will be able to jump over those boxes in PE class. ”

    There was a relay race(接力赛) on Tuesday. Kelly was scared that she would not be able to go very far. When Kelly ran around the track(跑道)，she heard many cheers and kids shouting, “Go Kelly! You can do it!" That was all she needed to hear. Kelly ran fast. She finished first! The kids cheered for her. Kelly felt so good.“ Thank you, Mr Burns," ”said Kelly. “Kelly, you ran the race, not me,” “Yes, but you always said I could do it. ”

    People enjoy sports all over the world. Sports help to keep people healthy and happy, and to live longer.

     They buy tickets or turn on their TVs to watch the games.Often they get very excited when their favourite player or team wins.

     People play different games in winter and summer. Swimming is fun in warm weather, but skating is good in winter.

     Football, for example, has spread around the world. Swimming is popular in all countries near the sea or in those with many rivers. What fun it is to jump into a pool or a lake, whether in China or Australia! And think of people in cold countries. Think how many people love to skate in Japan or Canada.

     Chinese Wushu, for example，has a very long history. But basketball and volleyball are rather new. Neither one is over 150 years old yet. People are inventing new sports or games all the time. Water-skiing is one of the newest in the family of sports.

    People from different countries may not be able to understand each other. But after a game together they often become good friends. Sports help to train a person's character. One learns to fight hard but fight fair, to win without pride and to lose with grace(体面).

Richard: Hi, Simon.

Simon: Not so good.

Richard: Well, the term exam is always more difficult. You'll certainly do better next time.

Simon: But unluckily, I've never done well in the science exam.

Richard: Come on, Simon! Let's talk about the football match tonight. It is much more interesting.

Simon: Er...

Richard: Why? Everybody knows you are a football fan.

Simon: The Chinese team has always played badly in the important matches, just as I have done in the important exams.
