Wales is one of the countries in Britain and the United Kingdom. It's a small country in the southwest of the UK with England to the east. Wales has got a 1,680-kilometre long coast, which means there are a lot of beaches! It has some of the most beautiful beaches in the UK and is a popular place for holidaymakers and water sports fans. As well as beaches, there are a lot of mountains in Wales. Snowdonia National Park is one of the three national parks in Wales. It is in north Wales and its highest mountain, Snowdon, is about 1,085 metres.

    The population of Wales is just over three million, around 5% of the total UK population. Most Welsh people live in south Wales in the capital city, Cardiff, and other big cities: Swansea and Newport. In Cardiff you can go shopping, visit the castle, go to the museum or go to a concert at the famous Millennium Stadium.

    The Welsh language is an old Celtic language which is very different from English. For example, the Welsh name for “Wales" is“Cymru",“Good morning” Is “Bore da” and "How are you?" is“ Sut wyt ti?". It is one of the oldest languages in Europe and around 20% of people in Wales speak Welsh. The official languages of Wales are English and Welsh. Everyone speaks English, but if you go to school in Wales, you have to learn Welsh until you are 16. Street signs are written in Welsh and English, and villages, towns and cities have an English name and a Welsh name, for example, the capital city is Cardiff or Caerdydd.

    My parents planned a relaxing trip. We didn't worry about our work or studies. On the first day, before we started out for Shanghai, we saw on TV that the traffic was heavy. So we decided not to drive our car but to take the bullet train(高速火车) to Shanghai. It was the time that I had ridden on the bullet train.

    On the way, an American girl sat next to me and I talked to her. She told me that she came here for a short stay-her father came to China on business. In one year he would go back to his company in the US. “How are you getting along here?" I asked. “Pretty well. I enjoy the life here and the people are ，” she said. With new friends around, she still missed her friends in the US very much. “It doesn't matter. I could always connect with them by letters, emails or making phone calls,” she said with a sweet smile.

    I really envied(羡慕) her for her chance to go through life in different cultures.

    In a map of the world you can easily find two big cities, London and New York. London is the biggest city in Europe. New York is the biggest city in America. The streets in London are crowded and there is one of the world's biggest underground railway systems(地铁系统) .The streets in New York are just as crowded as those in London. And the New York subway carries more people each day than the London underground. There are a lot of big stores in these two cities. But New York has more supermarkets than London.

    In London there are many palaces(宫殿) and churches, for example, St. Paul's. New York isn't as old as London, and it hasn't got many old buildings. But its skyscrapers(摩天大楼) are much bigger than the buildings in London.

    London has more parks than New York, But New York's Central Park is much bigger than the biggest park in London.

    I am a teacher in a middle school. I have a good friend called Mr White. He is the head of an office. He's often busy and has no time to do the housework. His wife knows him well and does all at home.

    Unluckily, their daughter Rose got hurt in a traffic accident two weeks ago, and had to be in hospital. Mrs White had to look after her there and she couldn't look after Mr White well. Mr White often ate in restaurants. As he never did any cleaning, the rooms were all in a mess(混乱) .

    Yesterday morning, before Mr White got up, the telephone rang. He sat up to answer it. His friend Tony told him to write down an important telephone number. But he could not find a pen or a piece of paper. He found there was much dust(灰尘) on the table and wrote the number on it with his finger. But soon he forgot about it and went to work.

    This morning, Mrs White and their daughter came back home.

    At noon, Mr White came in while Mrs White was cleaning the rooms. He sadly found the table was clean and the number was gone(不见了) .
