There are some ways to improve your English, but I think the most important thing is to make English all around you. Here's some advice for you.

▲Listen to the radio in English. If there are no English radio stations at the place where you live, listen to one on the Internet

▲Watch TV and movies in English. If you have English channels on your TV, watch them. If there are no English channels, you can buy some DVDs of English movies.

▲Speak English to your friends. You can find a friend who is good at English and speak English with him as much as possible. You'd better find friends whose native language is English. Ask your friend to correct you when needed.

▲Study in or travel to an English-speaking country. Of course the best way to improve your English is to live in English environments. You'll find yourself surrounded (围绕) with the language everywhere. It can be a more difficult and expensive choice, but you may find it to be a very valuable and helpful experience.

If there are no English radio stations where you live, you can ______.

Most Chinese students think English is difficult to learn. What do you think? Here (be) some advice on learning English.

When you learn a new word, don't just memorize it. Instead, try (use) it in the sentences. And use it as often as you can on the (one) day you learn it. You will remember new words much more easily in this way.

Practicing pronunciation, you know, is difficult. Take the "th" sound for example: choose the words that begin "th" and repeat them over and over again you pronounce them well. Have a try!

Read, read and read! Reading is one of (good) ways to increase your vocabulary and improve your grammar. is important to choose the books you are (interest) in.

When someone is talking with you English, listen to the main points. If you hear a new word, ignore (忽略) it and go on listening. If you stop (think) about the word, you will miss everything else that the person is saying.

With the Chinese language growing in popularity, the UK government plans to invest 10 million pounds to help more kids learn Chinese. Do you think it is necessary for UK pupils to learn Chinese?

    Seneca (Canada)

I studied French for 2 years in high school, and German for 4 years in college and got good marks. I studied Chinese for about 4 months before moving to China. Any language, if you don't use it, it will be easy to lose. I've forgotten the French I learned except for a few phrases. I speak Chinese every day. My writing, reading and listening are quite good, but far from fluent. I think nowadays, it's almost necessary to learn Chinese.

    Tony (the UK)

Learning any language can be valuable, but it is not suitable for everyone. Chinese is a difficult language to learn, and teachers in the UK are not good at teaching foreign languages. However, China is a big and developing market for English business people. For them, Chinese is worth learning.

    Bill (the US)

I don't think Chinese will become as widely spoken throughout the world as English. To learn Chinese, you have to devote yourself to learning how to write and read it It's too difficult to learn. But in the future Chinese will become more popular, and that is a good thing.

    Senaca learnt German for ______.
The underlined word "fluent" means "______" in Chinese.
From the passage we know ______.
What's the best title for the passage?

It seems that more and more Americans want schools to teach foreign languages to children under five years old. The most popular way to teach young children another language is called immersion (沉浸式语言教学法). Children in the immersion program hear only the new language in the classroom. The children play games, sing songs and talk to one another in the new language. Some experts (家) say the immersion program is the most effective (有效的) for young children to learn a language. But there can be a problem when children in the United States begin to learn another language at such an early age. Not many elementary schools continue to teach a foreign language. Only seven of the fifty states require (要求) schools to teach a foreign language to students between the ages of six and twelve. Language experts say it is easier for younger children to learn a language. Still, American schools generally do not begin to teach foreign languages until secondary school. By then, students are about thirteen years old.

American schools face difficult choices about the cost of educational programs. The government has increased support for foreign language study in its Education Law called "No Child Left Behind".

At college, the Modern Language Association says more students than ever are studying foreign languages and more languages are being studied now. Spanish is the most widely taught at American colleges and universities. French, German, Chinese and Italian are also popular.

Where is Spanish the most widely taught?
Students in the immersion program can do the following things EXCEPT ____.
Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
What is the passage mainly about?
