Answer the questions (根据以下内容回答问题)
Peter was a mailman. Five
days a week he rode his bicycle from village to village delivering letters. He
knew everybody and everybody knew him.
"Here comes
Peter," the children called, and their parents came to the doors of their houses.
Everybody liked Peter, and of course everyone especially liked getting letters.
"Something for you
today," Peter would call and he would get off his bicycle and take a
letter or a package out of the bag. Or he would say, "Sorry, nothing for
you today," and rode on.
Even the dogs knew and
liked Peter, and although they barked at strangers, they never barked at him
except for one dog. Its owner, Mrs Lin, had not lived in the village for many
weeks, and every time the dog saw Peter, it started barking. When Peter came to
Mrs Lin's house, he rode his bicycle faster. There were never any letters for
her so he did not have to stop. Then one day, there was a letter for her. Peter
stopped his bicycle some distance from Mrs Lin's house. The dog started
barking.
Mrs Lin came to the door.
"A letter for you!"
Peter shouted.
"Why can't you bring
it to me?" Mrs Lin shouted back.
"What about your dog?"
Peter said. "I don't want it to bite me." Mrs Lin laughed. "Don't
be frightened," she said. "Everyone knows the old saying "A
barking dog never bites."
"You know the old
saying and I know it," Peter said, "but how do you know that your dog
knows it?"
