    Do animals have their culture? What do we mean by "culture"? Recent years social scientists have begun to ask if culture is found just in humans, or if some animals have their culture too. When we think of culture, we mean a way of life that a group of people have in common(共同的). Culture is the  and beliefs(信仰) that a country or a group has. It is the way of behaviour that helps people live together. It is also the way of behaviour that makes a group of people  other groups.

    Our culture makes us lose strength, claws(爪子), long teeth, and other defenses (防卫). Instead we use tools, cooperate(合作) with , and communicate with language. But this kind of "culture" can also be found in the lives of some animals. Animals can also make tools, for example. We  think that the ability to use tools was the dividing line(分界线) between human beings and other animals. However, we have found that is not like this. Some animals can not only use tools but also make tools themselves. Animals can also share knowledge with each other and use their own language to communicate. So it may be important for us to know that the line dividing us from animals is not as clear as we used to think.

    The Spring Festival is the biggest festival for Chinese people all around the world. The celebration usually lasts for 15 days. There is a lot to do.

    On the eve of the Spring Festival, family members gather(聚集) and have big meals. Their favourite dish on this day is dumplings.

    Days before the Spring Festival, families will clean their homes. People think cleaning sweeps away bad luck. It makes the house ready for good luck.

    The colour red is everywhere during the Spring Festival. People think red is a happy colour and will bring them a bright future. People wear red, too. They decorate(装饰) their homes with pieces of red paper. Kids get a lot of "red packets". It is a red paper bag with money in it. Usually, older people give younger ones red packets. They think they bring good luck.

    The Spring Festival is the time to make everybody happy. So don't say any bad words or do anything that will bring unhappiness to other people.

    For example, you'd better not say any bad words like "death". Don't break anything. People think that it means your luck is running out.

    Also, don't borrow or lend money on these days. If you have borrowed money, return it before the Spring Festival.

    Mr White works in an office. He is very 1 and has no time to have a good rest. Every evening, when he comes back from his office, he's always tired and wants to go to bed early, 2 his wife often has a lot of interesting things to tell him after supper.     Next, you can read a book almost a, in a car, in a waiting room, on a plane, in bed, and even in the bath. All you need is a book! Reading is a convenient(方便的) hobby as it is easy to s and then start again.

Many school subjects depend on good reading and as you read, you learn more and more.

    One afternoon many years ago, I got out and had a walk in the park near my home. Later, I sat down on a bench and .

    I watched a little boy, about 2 years old, running freely on the grass as his mother watched from a  distance(距离). The boy would fall to the grass, get up and  looking back at his mother, run as fast as he could as if nothing happened.

    When kids fall down, they don't think of the fall as a failure. But they think of it as a learning , they try and try until they succeed. Each time he got up, he looked so confident and natural. His only aim was to run as freely as he could.

    I learned a lot from the boy on that afternoon. I understand what kind of attitude I should have towards my future.
