Life in the future will be very different from life today.

    The population is growing fast. There will be many people in the world and 1 of them will live longer than people live now.

    Computers will be even 2 and more useful, and there will be at least one in every home.

    People will work 3 hours than they do now and they will have more time for sports, watching TV and travelling. Travelling will be even easier and cheaper. And many more people will go to 4 countries for holidays.

    There will be changes in the food, too. More land will be found for building new towns and houses for all the people, and then there will be less room 5 cows and sheep, so meat will be more expensive. Maybe no one will eat it every day. Instead they will eat fruit and vegetables. Maybe people will be 6 .

    Work in the future will be different, too. Dangerous and hard work will be done by robots. Because of this many people will not have 7 work to do. This will be a problem.

    People usually don't like mice. But one mouse has been one of the most famous film c in the world. That is the well-known Mickey Mouse.

    One day a man called Walt Disney was drawing when he heard a strange n. The sound came from the waste-paper basket. Walt went over and saw a f mice eating pieces of bread in it. For many nights they ate and played there. Walt began to like them. Walt liked one little mouse b than any of the other mice. The little t mouse gave him an i of drawing. He started to draw it. But in the picture it looked more like a funny man than a mouse.

    Walt wanted to make this little mouse t in his pictures and soon it was able to speak. Later he named it Mickey Mouse. People laughed when they saw the film because they e seeing it. Soon Mickey Mouse became very p with both old and young people. Children loved their lovely friend because it brought joy and pleasure to them.

    Bobby came from a poor family. He wanted to buy his mother a Christmas present, but he only had a dime(十分硬币). He walked from shop to shop and finally came to a flower shop. Bobby asked if he could buy just one flower for his mother as a Christmas present with a dime. The shop owner said, "You just wait here and I'll see what I can do for you."

    The shop owner came out a little later with twelve beautiful roses, "That will be ten cents, young man. I just happen to have some roses on sale for ten cents a dozen(一打). Would you like them？"

    Bobby took the long box from the man's hands and left the shop happily. As the shop owner returned inside, his wife asked, "Who were you talking to and where are the roses you took out？"

    The man replied, "This morning while I was preparing to open the shop, I thought I heard a voice. It told me to put aside a dozen of my best roses for a special present and I did so. Then, just a few minutes ago, a little boy came into the shop and wanted to buy a flower for his mother with a dime. When I saw him, I remembered my experience many years ago. That time I was a poor boy with nothing to buy a Christmas present for my mother. A man that I didn't know stopped me on the street and told me that he wanted to give me ten dollars. When I saw that little boy tonight, I knew whose voice that was, and I put together a dozen of my best roses."

    Mark Twain, as you know, was famous in his day as a public speaker. In his public speeches he always tell funny stories. He also liked to listen to funny stories and to play jokes on his friends. One day one of his friends lost his wallet and asked Mark Twain to pay his train fare for him. "But I don't have enough money to pay both your fare and mine, "Mark Twain said. The friend didn't know what to do. "We can do this, "said Mark Twain." We can get on the train and when the conductor comes to check the tickets, you can hide under my seat." Later, however, when the conductor came to check the tickets, Mark Twain gave him two tickets, one for his friend and one for himself. Then he explained in a loud voice, "My friend is a strange man. When he travels on a train, he doesn't like to sit on the seat." Of course everybody in the train looked at the poor friend and laughed at him loudly.
