Canada is the second largest country in the world. It is far away from China and it lies in the north of America. The population(人口) of Canada is over 30 million and the capital is Ottawa. The country covers about 9, 980, 000 square kilometres and six of the world's 24 time zones.

    There are two languages spoken in Canada: English and French. Many people can speak both English and French. More than 60% of Canadians speak English as their language. About 25% of Canadians speak French. In one province(省份) of Canada where French is the common language, the programmes on TV and radios as well as the teaching in schools are all done in French. Canada's climate is not as cold all year round as we think. In winter, the temperature falls below zero in Canada. In summer, the southern provinces often have high levels of temperature that can reach over 30C. The weather in Canada is just like the weather in China. It is very cold in the north while it is warm in the south. Winters in the north last long with snow for half a year. Because of the cold northern climate, only one fifth of the land is suitable(适合) for farming.

    As is known to all, Canada has one third of the world's fresh water. It has many great lakes. There are four great lakes in the south, and there are many others, especially in the north.

    The world is divided(划分) into two parts. One half of the world is rich and the other is poor. In the poor part, a lot of people have n got enough to eat. When they are ill, none of the h can accept them because they have no money. In the rich part, a lot of people eat too much. For example, a dog or a cat in North America eats b than a child in the poorer countries.

    The poor countries have some difficult p. Sometimes the land is too poor to grow anything on. People there have neither rich land nor enough water. The land can be made better, b a lot of things must be done. The people must be taught and water must be found.

    But in rich countries, there are not always good places to live in. Sometimes the air is not clean and the rivers are too dirty to swim in or to d. The roads and streets are full of people and buses, and buses have to move slowly. Noise is too much. Some people don't have houses. Something must be done about these problems. The air and the rivers must be cleaned and be kept clean. More houses have to be built. However, these can't be done e. It needs lots of time and money.

    Each nation has many good people who help to take care of others. For example, some high school and college  1 in the USA often spend many hours as volunteers(志愿者) in the orphanages(孤儿院) or rest homes. They read books to the people in these places， or they just visit them and play games with them or  2with them about their classmates and school life.

    Other young volunteers go and work in the  3 of people who are sick or old. They paint, clean up or repair their houses and do their shopping or mow(割；修剪) their lawns. For boys who no longer have  4, there is an organization called Big Brothers. College students and other men take these boys to baseball games or fishing trips and help them get to know things that boys usually learn from their fathers.

    Each city has a number of clubs where boys and girls can go to play games. Some of these clubs show films or organize short trips to the mountains or some places of interest. Most of these clubs use a lot of high school and college students as volunteers because they are young enough to know the  5 of young boys and girls.

    Volunteers believe that some of the  6 people in the world are those who help to bring happiness to others.

    Little Tom down the street calls our dog the "keep dog". Zip is a sheep dog. But when Tom tries to say "sheep", it comes out "keep". And in a way(从某个方面) Tom is .

    Zip is always bringing things home for us to keep! I'll  you about some of them. Zip's first present was a shoe. It was made of green silk. We didn't know  Zip found the shoe. But after a moment, Mary, my big sister, told me the shoe had a strange . I nodded(点头) and held my nose. "What do you think it is?"

    "It smells like something for cleaning. I think someone tried to clean a spot(污点) off the shoe. Then he put it at the 4 to dry. We can't keep it."

    "Maybe little Tom is right," Mary said. "Maybe Zip is a keep dog!"
