In the United States, Mother's Day is a holiday on the second Sunday in May. It is a day when children give their mothers, presents and flowers.

     One of the best ways to celebrate Mother's Day is to give your mother the day off. Let herwhile other members of the family do the housework.

     Many families begin Mother's Day with breakfast in bed. Usually dad and the children will let mum sleep late as they go into the kitchen and get ready for the favourite meal. A Mother's Daycan be made of anything your mum likes.

     After the food is cooked, keep everything nice on a plate. Don't forget to put the bottle with only one flower. With spring here, the children can pick up theflower from the garden outside. When everything is ready, carefully carry the plate and mum's favourite books or newspapers up to her bedroom. Cards and small presents from the children can be put on the plateit is given to mum in bed.

     Many families take mum out to her favourite restaurant for a meal. It is a good day to let your mum rest and let her see what a wonderful family she has.

    In Australia Christmastime (圣诞期间) is always in the hottest period in summer! Without snowing, white Christmas never comes to Australia. It's a completely (完全地) different holiday from the one that you know.

    Beaches are very popular during that time. You can even see Santa Claus (圣诞老人) surfing on the ocean! On the day, families like to go to downtown (市区) to watch the carnival parade (嘉年华游行). everyone dresses up. They are as beautiful as the performers (表演者). And this makes the carnival more colourful. At night, people go to different outdoor parties to continue their happy hour.

    It may be a pity that Australians cannot enjoy a white Christmas, but they never feel upset because they have a special, happy holiday.

    Lily has been in Hong Kong for about two weeks. She found that people in Hong Kong have deating times and habits from hers. In London, people usually have some bread for breakfast but people in Hong Kong have congee. People in London often have hamburgers for lat one o'clock. People in Hong Kong have hamburgers too, but less often. They usually have different kinds of dishes or dumplings i.Lily really loves Chinese food. There are so many kinds and they are all very d.In the evening, people in London usually have dinner at about seven o'clock. Not in Hong Kong! In Hong Kong people have dinner at about ten! In London, Lily is uin bed by eleven. But in Hong Kong，the streets are full every night. A lot of people go to bed until midnight because they like to have some drinks with their friends adinner. Hong Kong is really an ever bright city (不夜城).

    All over the world, people enjoy sports. Sports help to keep people healthy, happy and to live longer.

    Many people like to watch others play sports games. They buy tickets or turn on their TVs to watch the games. Often they get very excited when “their” player or team wins.

    People play different games in winter and summer. Swimming is fun in warm weather, but skating is good in winter.

    Some sports are so interesting that people everywhere go in for them. Football for example, had spread around the world. Swimming is popular in all countries near the sea or in those with many rivers.

Some sports and games go back thousands of years，like running, jumping or discus-throwing. But basketball and volleyball are rather new.

    Nobody likes rules but everyone1follow them. As a teenager you probably have lots of rules to follow. You can't be late2school and you have to do your homework. You can't eat3drink in class. At home, your parents might say you have to help clean the house, and you can't go out on a school night.

    Adults have to follow rules, too. They have to be in the office4and for some jobs they have to wear a uniform. If you drive a car, there are traffic rules you have to follow.5, you have to drive on the correct side of the road, you have to turn on your headlights at night, and you can't park anywhere you like.

    Rules are everywhere, but they are there for our own safety.
