What is the worst disease(疾病) in the world? Many people might say it is cancer (癌症). Cancer will kill about 9.6 million people in the world this year, according to the World Health Organization. Scientists have been working to find ways to beat cancer. A lot of progress has been made in this field.

James P. Allison from the US and Japanese researcher Tasuku Honjo discovered a new kind of cancer treatment that earned them the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in October. The new treatment can make our immune systems (免疫系统) strong enough to effectively fight cancer cells. It is hoped that this treatment can be used to treat most cancers in the future.

This is not the only recent improvement in cancer treatment. In November, the US Food and Drug

Administration approved(批准) a new cancer drug(药物) called Vitrakvi. Instead of being effective only for treating one kind of cancer, this drug can be used to treat 17 different kinds of cancer, including lung cancer and breast cancer, USA Today reported.

Finding cancer as early as possible is the best way to beat it. To check people for cancer, doctors must collect tissue from a patient's tumor (肿瘤) and test it. This process can take a long time. But in December, scientists from the University of Queensland in Australia developed a simple cancer test that can detect (检测) cancer in a patient's blood. The test takes less than 10 minutes. The test is about 90 percent accurate, the Guardian reported.

With all of these treatments, cancer can be effectively controlled. Honjo believes most kinds of cancer will be-come treatable by 2050."Even if we cannot completely eliminate (消除) the tumor, we can survive while still having part of a tumor," Honjo said at a press conference (新闻发布会)in Stockholm, Sweden, in December.

Different weather makes people feel different. It has an effect on health, intelligence(智力)and feelings.

In August, it is very hot and wet in the southern part of the United Stated. People there have heart trouble and other kinds of health problems during this month. In the Northern and the Middle West, it is very hot at some time and very cold at the other times. People in these states have more heart trouble after the weather changes in February or March.

The weather can also influence intelligence. Fox example, in a 1983 report by scientists, IQ (智商) of a group of students was very high when a very strong wind came, but after the strong wind, their IQ was 10% lower. The wind can help people have more intelligence. Very hot weather, on the other hand, can make it lower. Students in many schools of the United States often get worse in exams in the hot months of the year (July and August).

Weather also has a strong influence on people's feelings. Winter may be a bad time for thin people. They usually feel cold during these months. They might feel unhappy during cold weather. But fat people may have hard time in hot summer.  At about 18℃, people feel more comfortable.

Are you feelings sad, tired, or unhappy today? It may be the weather's problem.

Besides feelings, how many sides does this passage mention about weather's influence on people?

What does the underlined word "it" refer to in Paragraph 3?

What's the main idea of this passage?

Why do students in many schools in the United States usually get worse in exams in July and August?

In which page of the newspaper can you probably read this passage?

A serious earthquake can be a terrible experience, and it is easy to forget safety measures (措施) in disorder (混乱). Fortunately, most earthquake safety measures are common sense, but if you forget everything else, remember the following instructions: drop, cover, and hold on. Also, most of earthquake deaths happen after the earthquake, so remember that the danger does not end when the shaking does!

If you stay indoors during an earthquake, move away from unsupported areas and windows. Try to get under a doorway or another area of the building which is held up by strong beams(梁). Stay under a table or desk only if it is very strong. Do not rush to lifts, because it is far safer to stay where you are. Cover your head with your arms around it and curl(蜷缩) into a ball, and wait for the shaking to stop.

If you stay outdoors during an earthquake, move to an area. Which is as open as possible. Don't move to buildings, electric poles and other objects which may fall during an earthquake and injure you. Protect your head and stay low to the ground till the shaking ends and it is safe to move.

After an earthquake, many buildings are less strong, although they appear safe. If you stay indoors, move people from the building quickly and help disabled or injured people. Once outdoors, move well away from the building so that if it falls down, you will not be injured. Wait till public safety officials announce that it is safe to stay indoors. By planning ahead and keeping calm during an earthquake, you can greatly increase your chances of survival (生存) without injury.

The underlined word "Fortunately" in the first paragraph means         .

We can learn from the passage that earthquake safety measures          .

According to the passage, it isn't a good choice        during an earthquake.

If you stay outdoors during an earthquake, you can do all the following except         .

The purpose of the passage is mainly to tell us how to         .
