    Once, a king loved music so much that he searched the world for the best instrument. One day, a magic man1the king a harp (竖琴).

    As China's economic power grows, its culture also develops. Away from the high street and Western luxury brands (奢侈品牌) , there are a growing number of brands in China. Chinese designers are bringing their brands to the world, showing Chinas soft power.

    Wang Peiyi is an independent Chinese fashion designer. He showed his works at Milan Fashion Week. He is the first mainland designer to hold a show at the event. The collection, influenced (影响) by the northern lights, was an important success.

    It may come as a surprise that independent designers like Wang don't have economic help they badly need. Most of them set up studios, hire workers and produce collections out of their own pockets. His experience shows the difficult situation faced by many other designers.

    On the bright side, independent designers are finally starting to receive some support. The Mercedes-Benz China Fashion Week—a landmark event opened with Wang's collection.

    The state flag of Alaska was designed by 13-year-old John Benson in 1927. His design was chosen from a flag-designing competition. It became the official flag in1959. Benson won a $1,000 scholarship (奖学金) and a watch.

    Frank Epperson invented the Popsicle in 1905 when he was only 11 years old. It was called the Epsicle at that time. Frank left his drink outside the door overnight with a stick (木棒) in it.
