Long ago, people lived on wild animals, fruits and other plants and they didn't need to use money.

As time passed, families had more products (产品) than they needed, such as animals and crops. So they needed to trade (交易) with others. They began to use money to make it easier. However, it was not like the money we use today. They used shells, rice, salt large stones.

During the 600s BC, people began using coins as money. Because they were easier to carry than goods (货物),countries began to make coins as their money.

The Chinese were the first to use paper money, probably in the 11 the century. An Italian traveler, Marco Polo, saw the Chinese use paper money when he visited China in the 1200s. After his travel, he told the western people what he saw. But European countries didn't start using paper money till the 1600s.

Today we have many ways to pay for things, such as coins, paper money and cards. Some prefer to pay by card. That's because paying with a card is easier and safer than carrying around a lot of "real” money.

Should teenagers be allowed to have jobs? There are several ways to look at the question. Of course, in some family situations, having a teen's job may be good. These families usually can't afford to buy what their children like. If the teenagers want to buy something expensive, they will have to go out to work.

But what about the families that are doing all right and don't need their teens to have a job to get by?

Some parents want their teens to work so that they can learn responsibility and stay out of trouble after school. Getting their first job also helps teach teens the value of money and how hard it is to earn. In fact, having a job is good for teens in some ways.

Not all teens, however, need the extra money by getting a job. If a teen wants to take part in after school activities such as sports or games, having job could get in the way of that. Teens only get one chance to be teens and being on school sports teams might be the only chance in their lifetime. Once high school and college are over, it will be very difficult to find such a chance. So parents should think twice before allowing their children to get jobs.

There are of course some teens who really want to work and that is fine. Everyone is different. If a teen wants to work to make extra money, then he or she should be allowed to do it. As teens, they should be allowed to learn about social life.

Who might be the main reader of the passage?
Which word might have the same meaning as the word "earn"?
What does the writer think about teens and their jobs?
Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
What is the main idea for the passage?
