    As he poured the last bucket of water into the basket, he saw a bright thing in it. He picked it up. It was a beautiful gold ring. Just then the king came.8he saw the ring, he knew that he had found the kind of man he wanted. He told him to keep the ring for himself. "You9so well in this little thing," he said, "10now I know I can believe you with many things."

    Jane Goodall is a famous scientist. For more than 40 years, Goodall lived mostly in Tanzania in East Africa, studying chimpanzees(黑猩猩).

    As a young child, Jane Goodall was interested in animals. She grew up in the English countryside and was always climbing trees or riding horses.

    When Jane was 23, she got a chance to go to Africa. Even though she had never been to college, she got a job with a famous scientist named Louis Leakey.

    One day Louis Leakey said he needed a volunteer. He needed someone to go to a lake in Tanzania to study a kind of chimpanzees. Jane was excited.

    On July 16, 1960, she began her exploration(探索).At first, the chimpanzees ran away from Jane. But with the passing of time, they got used to her being around.

    Every day, Jane would follow the chimpanzees, taking notes on their behaviour. She learned many new things about chimpanzees. She watched how a chimpanzee made a tool. She learned how some chimpanzees became good leaders. She watched animals get angry and get upset. She wrote everything down so others would understand animals as she did. She learned that if you pay really close attention to animals, you will understand what they are "saying".

    Sharks frighten most of us, but Daniel Weaver, a shark scientist, swims with them for a living! We asked him some questions about this unusual job.

    So Daniel, what's it like to be a shark scientist?

    Well, it's a great job. I often travel to faraway places like South Africa and Fiji to study sharks. On the other hand, a shark scientist sometimes does boring desk work, such as writing reports. Also, shark scientists don't usually get paid a lot.

    What qualities do we need to become a shark scientist?

    Shark scientists need to be wise and strong. They enjoy working outdoors and they have to be cool and patient. They also have to be quite brave!

    So do you think it's a dangerous job?

    Well, sharks have a lot of sharp teeth. However, sharks hardly attack humans. There are over 400 kinds of sharks in the world but only about 10 kinds of them are dangerous to us. In fact, dogs kill more people every year than sharks! Humans kill over 12 million sharks a year for food and sport!

    How can we become a shark scientist?

    A shark scientist usually studies Marine Science or Zoology at university. It's also good to get some work experience in an aquarium(水族馆).In my opinion, I have the best job in the world!
