    A dog entered a butcher's (屠夫的) shop with a note in his mouth. The note read, “$10 of lamb chops (羊排) , please.”

    The butcher was very (surprise). He took the money, put a bag of chops in the (dog) mouth, and then he closed the shop (quick). He followed the dog and watched him wait for a green light. Then the dog crossed the road to a bus stop. He checked the timetable and sat on the bench. When a bus arrived, the dog checked the number and gotit.

    As the bus travelled out into the countryside, the dog enjoyed the scenery. Afterwhile, he stood on his back paws (爪子)  (push) the "stop" button (按钮) . Then the butcher followed (he) off.

    The dog ran up to a house and dropped his bag on the ground. He went back down the path, (take) a big run, and threw himself against the door. No answer. He repeated (重复) the action a few times. Then a big man opened the doorstarted complaining about (抱怨) the dog and beating him.

    Seeing this, the butcher ran up and shouted at the man, "What are you doing? This dog is a genius (天才) !" The man replied, "Genius? No way! He has forgotten his key for the (four) time this month!"

    Dogs are friends of man. They work for us. They hunt with us. They also play with us. But a long time ago, all over the world, dogs were wild. Dogs can go back to the Stone Age. All dogs had the same ancestor (祖先). It is believed that this ancestor was much like a wolf. Other animals, like fox, also came from this ancestor. Thousands of years ago, man began to tame (驯服) the wild dogs. When the dogs were tamed, they were trained well. The strong dogs then became working animals. They were trained to pull heavy loads. They learned to keep watching over sheep and other animals. Working dogs could do other things too. Some dogs were not strong. But they could help man hunt. Other dogs were best at being pets. At first, there were only a few kinds of dogs. Today, there are more than 100 kinds.
