Parents can be very important teachers in our lives. However, they are not always the best teachers. Parents may be too close to their children emotionally (感情上). Sometimes they can only see their children through the eyes of a protector. For example, a teacher might see a trip to a big city as a valuable experience. However, it might seem too dangerous to a parent.

    Another problem is that parents may expect their children's interests to be similar to their own. If they love science, they may try to force (强迫) their children to love science. But what if (要.....怎样) their children's true love is art, writing or repairing?

    Parents usually want to pass on their values to their children, But should children always believe what their parents do? When children are young, they believe that their parents are always right. But when they get older, they will have different ways of thinking.

    The most important thing to realise is that we all have many teachers in our lives. Our parents teach us, our teachers teach us, and our friends teach us. Books, newspapers and televisions also teach us, All of them are valuable.

    Tom was a carpenter (木匠). His mother died a long time ago. John was very weak because Tom didn't give him enough food, Tom had a son, His name is Michael. He was born in 2004. He loved his grandfather.

    One day John was eating his food on the plate. The plate fell down and broke into pieces. Tom saw the broken plate. Michael saw this. He did not like his father.

    The next day Michael took some tools and a piece of wood. His father saw him working.

    "" he asked.

    "A wooden plate!" replied Michael.

    "What for?" asked his father,

    "I am making it for you. When you grow old, like my grandfather, you will need a plate for food. A plate made of china breaks very easily. It may not break so easily."

    The carpenter was shocked to hear this. He realised his mistake. He then became a different person.

A: Hello, Uncle John!

B: Hello,Bob! You look worried and upset.

A: I really need your help.

B: What do you mean?

A: But now it becomes more and more difficult since I am in Grade Nine. My parents don't allow me to play basketball.

B: Maybe your parents are right.

    Imagine this; Your parents go away on business, and you have to stay at home alone. Would life be as easy as when your parents are around? Would it be a perfect holiday for you?

    "I can fill an stomach with tomato and egg soup, but that's all. I think many of my classmates are the same, We wouldn't know what to do, or how to look after ," said Zheng Chenyu. "And I would forget something important. I would probably watch TV and cook the soup."

    "As soon as I leave home, I'll learn to cook. But now parents do almost for us. We're very lazy," she said.

    Most teenagers only have time for their homework. They don't learn any life skills until they go to college. However, Sima Yige doesn't think so,

     "I think I would be all right. I wouldn't just eat sandwiches or fruit. I know how to cook some simple dishes because my mum showed me," the 13 一 year 一 old boy said. In his opinion, many teenagers too much on their parents, and there is much more to learn besides cooking, like up your room or even dressing yourself properly.

    For most teenagers it wouldn't be a holiday at all.

    It's hard to make friends if you stay at home alone all the time. Get out of the house and do things that will put you in touch with (接触) other people. It's easier to make friends with others when you have similar interests.

    Don't be afraid to show people what you're really good at. Talk about the things you like and do best. People will be interested in you if there is something interesting about you.

    Look at people in the eye when you talk to them. That way, they'll find it easier to talk to you, or people may think you re not interested in them and may stop being interested in you.

    Be a good listener. Let people talk about themselves before talking about "me, me, me". Ask lots of questions. Show an interest in their answers.

    Try to make friends with the kind of people you really like, respect (尊敬), and admire (羡慕) 一 not just with those who are easy to meet. Be friendly to a lot of people. That way, you'll have a bigger group of people to choose from and have more chances of making friends.
