    There are many legal (法定的) holidays in the US. Here are some of them.

    It is a legal holiday, and all banks and schools are closed. Many people invite their friends to come to their homes or visit them in the afternoon or evening.

    Although Washington was born on February 22nd, his birthday is now celebrated on the third Monday of February. Some states in America celebrate Lincoln's birthday on February 12th. They, the most famous presidents of America, were both born in February.

    This holiday remembers many service members, men and women, who died for their country. Americans celebrate Memorial Day with services in cemeteries and churches.

    America's great national holiday, Independence Day, falls on the fourth of July. It was on this day that the colonists (殖民地居民) announced their independence from England. They had to fight hard for the next seven years to win this independence.

    This holiday honours (向……表示敬意) the working people of

America. There are different sorts of celebrations and speeches on this day too.

People go to all kinds of places to enjoy the fine weather at the end of summer.

    People all over the world celebrate the new year. However, not all the countries celebrate in the same way, and in some countries, the new year doesn't begin on the same day every year. It can depend on the seasons, the moon or the sun.

    In many countries, the new year begins on 1st January, but people start celebrating on 3lst December, New Year's Eve. In New York many people go to celebrate in Times Square. While they are waiting for the new year, they listen to music, sing the traditional songs and have fun. Just before 12 o'clock, everyone counts down from 10, 9 , 8 ... As soon as it's 12 o'clock, everyone shouts very loudly, "Happy New Year! Out with the old year and in with new!" Suddenly there are fireworks and special drinks. Sometimes people sing an old song called Auld Lang Syne.

    On New Year's Day, many people make resolutions for the new year. They write down a list of things, such as "I will help out more at home, I will work harder at school or I won't spend so much time playing video games." When they have made their list, they read it to their family. friends and promise to follow their resolutions.

    For most people in the west, Valentine's Day (情人节) falls on February 14. But here in Japan there is another day to celebrate it. March 14 一 exactly one month after Valentine's Day 一 is White Day in Japan.

    To really understand what White Day is all about, you have to understand what Valentine's Day in Japan is like. Japanese Valentine's Day is all about men getting presents. Japanese women are usually too shy to show their love, though it might not be true today. Valentine's Day is a great chance to let women show their feelings.

    On both days, chocolate is the gift of choice. More often. the colour of the chocolate is white because of the name of the day. You can also buy flowers. candy. or cookies.

    Does it sound good to you? Don't get too excited when you get chocolate from Japanese girls! They give chocolate not only to their loved ones, but also to men such as bosses (老板) and male (男性的) friends.

    The Japanese first celebrated White Day in 1978. Now it is also celebrated in South Korea and Taiwan, China.

    How's your vacation? I'm visiting my uncle in Spain. He lives in the sunny and beautiful city of Valencia. in Spain.

    Yesterday, I had great fun. My uncle took me to the Tomato Festival in Bunol, which is just 30 miles away from where my uncle lives. You have probably never heard of this festival before. Neither had L. The Tomato Festival is called "La Tomatina" in Spanish. It was the biggest and messiest (最混乱的) tomato fight in the world. When we first got t0 the square where the festival took place, it was very crowded with people from all around the world, and many trucks were carrying tomatoes. My uncle told me the number of the people here was around 38,000 and this was more than four times the population of Bunol.

    The tomato fight started as soon as the first banger was beaten. Then everyone, including me, started throwing tomatoes at each other. I took red tomatoes and threw them at anyone that ran, moved, bent down, or turned around. Tomatoes must be squashed before people threw them in order not 10 hurt anybody.

    After a little while, the streets, people and nearby buildings were splashed with red, There was no winner in this fight, but we all had fun. As soon as a second banger was beaten. people stopped throwing.
