Thanksgiving Day is a public holiday. It is on the fourth Thursday in November in the US and on the second Monday in October in Canada.

    For many Americans, it is the most important holiday apart from Christmas. Schools. offices and most businesses are closed for Thanksgiving Day, and many people make the whole weekend a vacation.

    On Thanksgiving Day there are special television programmes and sports events. Thanksgiving Day is considered as the beginning of Christmas period, and next day many people go out to shop for Christmas presents.

    The Mid Autumn Festival is very important in China. A few days before the festival, peopleto get ready for it. My mother always shops for something nice, especially the mooncakes. On that day sons and daughters come back to their parents' houses. Usually people who work far away return to visit their parents. It's a time for-all the family to get together.
