Tai Lake, the third largest fresh water lake
in China is among Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province and Shanghai City. It's
very large, about more than 2, 000 square kilometres. There are 18 islands in
it and 72 mounts around it. Hundreds of rivers run into the lake. Beautiful mounts
and clear water made a wonderful picture many years ago. The Tai Lake area was
famous for fish and rice. It brought the local people a lot.
In 1991, there
was a lot of rain in the area. Tai Lake reached nearly five metres deep.
Usually it is less than two metres deep. A lot of cities around the lake, such
as Suzhou, Wuxi were in danger. After that, our government planned 10 projects
to harness(治理)it and finished these projects in 2002. From then on, it's safe
enough for people to live in the area.
However, another
problem appeared in Tai lake last month. Plenty of plants called blue green
algae(蓝藻)grew quickly there. The water became bad. It smelled terrible. The
local people had no clean water to drink and use.
"I
never thought we would need to buy water from the shop for cooking!" a
woman said sadly.
Experts(专家)tell
us why blue green algae grow so much. There are three main reasons. First, people
pour waste into the rivers and the lake, so the water has become very dirty.
Second, there is so little rain in the area this year. Third, the weather is
too warm. It's our duty to use Tai Lake will. We should harness and protect the
lake, too. But it's X to protect Tai Lake. If everyone makes a contribution(贡献)to it, the water will become clean soon, I think. Wish Tai Lake was
clear!
