My holiday with Grandparents was great! They moved to Arizona when I was five. This was my first time to travel by (I).The village is on the top of a tall hill. I wasn't sure if I could climb that high. I also wanted to know if Grandma and Grandpa would act (different) in this village than they did in our apartment(公寓) in New York.

    Grandpa met me at the airport. As we drove away from the city, I enjoyed the beauty of the desert(沙漠). Soon we arrived the village. I looked down and found that we were so high up. I felt a bird!

    Grandma(wait) for us. Their rooms were cool under the hot sun. Grandma said the building was made of stones(石头) and the stones kept the rooms cool.

    After (eat) lunch, we took a walk outside. We visited the "kiva": it is a large room the Hopi people go for special events.

    I really liked the Hopi people. They were (friend) to me. One man helped me make a gift to take home to Mum. The children and I played ball games. It seemed I was part of the big family in the village. It was hard (leave) my grandparents when my two weeks were over. I hope to live in Walpi for two more weeks!

—I gave Mr Wang a present and he            it happily.

—Pardon me, nurse. I didn't hear the bell.

English weather

    Everybody talks about the weather in England and this is not surprising. It changes from minute to minute, so it's always interesting. Someone once wisely remarked(评论) that other countries have a climate, but England just has weather! Gretel was amazed by this talk at first, but she has got used to it now.

    Last month Gretel really understood why everyone is so concerned about the weather:  you can never be certain what's going to happen. Though it was spring, there were heavy snowfalls. As usual, no one expected it. The pipes in many houses were frozen; trains failed to run; cars on the roads shrank; there were many accidents on the roads; lots of people slipped on the icy pavements and got hurt. The weather was very bad. Everyone complained gloomily(沮丧地), "What awful weather we're having! Haven't seen anything like it!". And then, suddenly, the sun came out, the snow melted and it was spring again.

    "Typical(典型的)! Just typical! " Gretel remarked. "From the way you talk about the weather, Gretel," Mr Clark said, "anyone would think you were English."

—Maybe             took it away by mistake.

Dear Ms Watanabe,

    Thank you for being my "host (主人)" in Japan. I' m really looking forward to staying with you! Now let me tell you something about myself.
     My name is Claire Murphy and I'm twenty-two years old. I come from Adelaide, Australia. I'm studying nursing (护理) in a university in Sydney now. It's hard work but I have lots of fun.

     At the weekend, I like to go to concerts or go swimming with my friends. I also enjoy playing the piano. I'm learning it from my sister's friend, and I have lessons every Tuesday and Friday.
     I have two sisters, Tina and Wendy, and a brother Bob. Tina is the oldest one, and she is working in a hospital. Wendy is younger than me, but she is taller. She is still at high school. We all grew up in Adelaide. Wendy and Tina still live there with my parents, but Bob and I are studying in Sydney now. We get on well but all sisters fight (打架) sometimes!
       I am very excited about visiting Japan next month and meeting you because I love to travel and experience new things. I think it's going to be great!
