Canada is a wonderful country in North America. It's the second largest country in the world after Russia. In 2012 the population of Canada was around 35 ,0000. Canada's flag(国旗) has a maple leaf(枫叶) because there are many maple trees 1n the country. Toronto is the biggest city in Canada. In Toronto you can see the CN Tower. It is 553 metres high--the tallest building in Canada.

    Canada has two official(官方的) languages- English and French. Every Canadian child studies both languages at school. The French-speaking Canadians mainly live in Quebec. The native(土著的) Canadians are the Inuit (once called “Eskimos"). Many still live in the cold places in the north. They follow more traditional ways of living.

    Canada is one of the most popular places in the world. Lots of people travel there each year. There are many interesting things to see and to do. The Niagara Falls is the most famous. The waterfalls are between the US and Canada. The Canadian part of the falls is 49 metres high- higher and more exciting than the American part.     There are about 65 million people in the United Kingdom. This is a big population for such a small country. But large parts of the country have few people. Most of the population is crowded into the big cities and industrial(工业的) areas. About 90% of the people live in cities and towns. Only about 10% live in the countryside.     England has the most people. More than 50 million people live in England. Of these, about 14 million people live in London and the southeast. London is now a city of about 8.7 million people. There are about 1.8 million people in Northern Ireland and one third live in and around the big industrial city of Belfast.

    India has a population of about 1. 32 billion. Its population is the second largest in the world. China has the largest population of about 1.37 billion. One out of six people on this planet live in India. Although, the crown(王冠) of the world's most populous(人口稠密的) country is on China's head for many years. India will take the position by 2030. With the population growth rate at 1.58%, India will have more than 1. 53 billion people by the end of 2030.

    Now more than 50% of India's population is below the age of 25 and over 65% below the age of 35. About 72.2% of the population lives in some 638, 000villages.

    Some of the reasons for India's quickly growing population are poverty, illiteracy(无知)，decrease in death rates and immigration(移民) from Bangladesh and Nepal. India started taking measures to stop the growth rate quite early. India had the “National Family Planning Programme” in 1952. It became the first country in the world to have a population policy. However, it failed to reach the final goal(目标).

   Most new people were born in developing countries. In the developed countries of Europe and North America, the population is growing very slowly. In the developing countries, many women have five or more children. In 1950, around one quarter of the world's population lived in the developed countries. By 2050, these countries will be home to only around one tenth of the world's population.

    In the developing countries, more than one billion people are still living below the poverty(贫困) line. Children get little time at school and people suffer(遭受痛苦) from many kinds of diseases.

    The UN has said that the world's population will level off(平稳下降) at 12.5 billion by the year 2100. Other groups think the world's population will continue to grow，reaching 14 billion before it becomes stable(稳定的), or even falls.
