◆Create opportunities for talking

Make time for talking by reducing the number of activities your family is involved in each week. In April 2020, Cynthia Kudji and her daughter Jasmine graduated (毕业) from medical school at the same time and now they will be working together at the same hospital.

Cynthia Kudji was 23 years old, she dreamed of becoming a doctor. However, she had to put her dream on hold because she was pregnant (怀孕的) with her daughter. At age 43, she (decide) to pursue (攻读) her medical degree.

Cynthia and Jasmine attended medical school at the same time, but the two schools were hundreds of (mile) away from each other. They missed each other very much and they could just communicate each other through video calls. Recently, Zhejiang did a survey of young people's mental(精神的) health. It found that junior middle school students in Zhejiang feel the biggest pressure from schools among teenagers. Besides, 48% of middle school students show signs of mental health problems. What are the students worried about?

Yan Haiming has always wanted to help develop music education in the countryside. Students these days often have lot of worries. Sometimes they have problems with their schoolwork, and sometimes with their friends. _ ▲ Some people think the worst thing is to do nothing. Laura Mills, a teenager from Washington, agrees. "Problems and worries are normal in life, "says Laura. "But I think talking to someone helps a lot. If we don't talk to someone, we'll certainly feel worse.

Laura once lost her purse, and worried for days. She was afraid to tell her parents about it. She even walked three miles to school each day because she didn't have any money. She just kept thinking, "If I tell my parents, they'll be angry!" But in the end, she talked to her parents and they were really understanding. Charnaie Gordon reads a lot of books with her 6-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son. Those books are about people from different countries with different backgrounds and cultures. She hopes her children can see into the world of others from books.

One day, the family realised that they couldn't keep all the books. Then they donated some to the local library. Later, the daughter learned that some families didn't have enough money to buy kid books. Then she had an idea: They could give the books to kids who needed them.

In August 2018, the family started a project—50States, 50 Books. They decided to donate 50 different kinds of children's books to each state of the country.

In the beginning, Gordon didn't know what to expect. But a week after she put the project on her blog, book donations began arriving in the mail. By November, her family had collected more than 700books. A publisher sent 800more. With that donation, they could send 50 books to 30 states. Six months later, a final donation, from author Minh Le and his wife, got the family to their goal of 2, 500 books. Then Gordon mailed the books to schools, libraries and families that needed them.

Because of this challenge, many kids can read books for free. Gordon says it's important for kids to read lots of books since it can help kids understand what they can do and be whatever they want to be.

Now that she has finished her 50 States, 50Books challenge, Gordon is beginning another one.

In our English class, Mr Chen told us to  (讨论) great books and write a book review of our favourite one. I (猜想) many students will take The Ad ventures of Tom Sawyer as their favourite book.
