I always sat in the back of the classroom and kept to myself.
The thought of everyone's eyes on me made me feel very uncomfortable. That was
until my first year of high school when everything changed.
I always wanted to join the student organization. Wanted to run for
treasurer(参加竞选财务员)—someone important enough, but again,
not the center of attention. They said I had great ideas, that I
was a good listener, and that I would be able to do a lot for our class. No
doubt in my mind I would love the honor. Finally I made up my mind.
But when I heard the most popular girl in our school was also
running for monitor, I wanted to throw the idea away. When class
election day(选举日) finally arrived, I was nervous but
also really proud of myself for making it as far as possible.
I was the second to make my speech. Although I had a stomachache, I kept
telling myself," Be proud to have made it this far. " I gave my
speech and made promises.
Looking back I realized I was able to overcome my shyness because I
truly believed that I was the best person for the job of monitor.
Are you shy, too? If you are, remember that all it takes is a little confidence
in yourself, and with that, nothing is impossible.
