"Using a smartphone at mealtimes can put on weight," say scientists. Researchers have found that men and women take in more calories (卡路里)when looking at their phones while eating. They also eat more fatty food.
The study suggests that staring (盯) at a phone screen may distract (使……分心) people from how much food they are eating." It may prevent the correct understanding of the brain over the total food they have eaten, " said researchers who filmed 62 volunteers eating by themselves.
The men and women, aged 18 to 28, were invited to help themselves to a choice of food from healthy food to soft drinks and chocolate—-until they got feelings of satisfaction (满足). In three periods, the volunteers were recorded their eating with no distractions, using as mart phone and reading a magazine.
The study shows that the volunteers ate 535 calories without the distraction of a smartphone but 591 when using a mobile. They also ate more when reading a magazine.
The study went on at the Federal University of Lavras in Brazil and University Medical Center Utrecht in the Netherlands." Using smartphones during a meal increased calorie and fat intake, " said Marcio Gilberto Zangeronimoa, a leader of the study. He added," Tablets (平板电脑) and smartphones have become the main' distracters' during meals, even early in childhood. So it is important to pay attention to how this may influence food choices. "
