A lot of boys and girls in west countries are wearing the same kinds of clothes: Many of them have long hair, so it is often difficult to tell whether they ate boys or girls.

    One day, an old man went for a walk in Washington. When he was tired he sat down on a long chair. A young person was standing on the other side of the pool.

    “Good Heavens!” the old man said to the person who was sitting next to him on the chair. “Do you see that person with long hair? Is it a boy or a girl?”

    “A girl.” said his neighbor, “She's my daughter.”

    “Oh!” the old man said quickly, “I'm sorry. I didn't know that you were her mother.”

    “I'm　not,” said his neighbor, “I'm her father.”

    The story is about two mice. They are friends. One mouse lives in the country. The other lives in the city. One day they meet each other. The one in the country says, “Come and have look at my house.” They come to a house in a field. The country mouse gives the city mouse nice food. But the city mouse says. “This food is not good. You must come and live with me in the city.”

    So they go to the house of the city mouse. It is a very good house. Nice food is ready (准备）for them to eat. But just when they begin to eat, they hear a great noise. “Run! Run! The cat is coming!” the two friends run away quickly. After some time, they go out. The country mouse says to the city mouse, “I don't like to live in the city. It's dangerous.”

    George was a quiet, serious young man. He had been studying very hard for one year, and when he passed all his exams, his friend Jim went to give him his congratulations and then had an earnest talk with him.

  “You've never been to a dance, George.” he said. “It's boring always studying and never enjoying oneself. Come out with me this evening.”

  “Maybe you're right, Jim,” replied George after a moment of hesitation.

    So they went to a dance and had a very good time. But George drank more than he was used to, and by midnight Jim became worried about him, so he said, “now we'll walk home in the cool air.”

    On their way home, they came to a bridge. George looked down at the river below very carefully, the stars were reflected on its surface.

  “What are those lights down there?” George asked.

  “They're the stars, George,” Jim answered.

  “The stars?” George said. “Well, then, they should be above in the sky. How did I get so high up here? They are now at my foot!”

    Look at the photo. It is Mr. Lee's house. There was a sofa beside the window. Now it is beside the desk. The mirror was above the sofa. Now there is a map above the sofa. There was a green rug (地毯)in the sitting-room. Now there is a blue rug. The shelf is on the right. There was a radio on it. But now there's no radio. There are some books on it. Mr. Lee liked music. Now he likes reading.

    In China, most students go to school by bike or by bus. If the school is not far, they can walk to school every day. Few students are late for school. But things are different in other countries. In many Western countries, students live far from their schools and they have different ways to get to school. Many of them go by subway. In some cities, there are double-deck buses. This kind of bus has two floors and it can carry more people. So, some Students can take a double-deck bus to school. In some cold countries, it often snows. The students in town may take a school bus. But the students in villages far from the school have to go by sledge (雪橇) because there is snow everywhere. Sometimes, the students may be late for school. If it snows heavily, the students can only study at home. Guess, in which country, students may go to school by bus?
