The Smiths are Americans (美国人). They are now in Beijing. This is their first visit to China. They are going to stay (停留) in China for two months. They want to visit some cities and villages. They hope to learn some Chinese, too.

    Mr. Smith is a doctor. He will visit a hospital in Shanghai. Mrs. Smith is a school teacher. She is going to visit some city schools and village schools. Their daughter is a middle school(中学) student. She wants to meet some Chinese students.

    They are going to take a lot of pictures in China. When they are back in America, they will show the pictures to their American friends. They want the American people know more about China.

    John is a Canadian (加拿大人). He lives in a tall building (高楼) in the city of Toronto (多伦多). There are eighteen floors in the building and he lives on the fifteenth floor. He uses a lift to go up and down.

    John works very hard. He goes to work early. Every day he gets out of the lift. Then he walks to a bus stop. The bus stop is in front of a station. It is about two hundred metres from his home.

    He usually catches the number 11 bus to work, but sometimes he goes by train. John works in a factory about ten kilometres from his home. He starts working at 8:30, and finishes at 4:45. He gets back home at a quarter past five. He gets into the lift, and he goes up to the twelfth floor. Then he gets out of the lift and climbs up to the fifteenth floor on foot.
