Mrs Black lived in a small village. Her
husband was dead, but she had one son. He was twenty-one and his name was Jim.
He worked in a shop in the village and lived with his mother. But then he got a
job in a town and went and lived there. Its name was Greenwood. It was quite a
long way from his mother's village, and she was not happy about this, but Jim
said, "There isn't any good work for me in the village, Mother, and I can
get a lot of money in Greenwood and send you some every week." Mrs Black
was very angry last Sunday. She got on a train and went to her son's house in
Greenwood. Then she said to Jim, "Jim, why do you never phone me?"
Jim laughed. "But, Mother", he said, "you haven't got a phone."
"No", she answered, I haven't, but you've got one!"
